Mr. Smith’s interest in jewellery stems from a fascination with and reverence for the meticulous work required to make both aesthetically pleasing and functional work. This interest and passion has helped guide him through his life, and led him to attend three post-secondary schools with a specific focus on jewellery.
He first completed a two year course and received a diploma in Jewellery and Small Object Design from Kootenay School of the Arts at Selkirk College in Nelson, British Columbia in 2008. After moving to the East Coast in 2009, he attend the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (NSCAD) and in 2011 Mr. Smith graduated from NSCAD with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing. Upon graduation from NSCAD Mr. Smith was hired on full time as a jewellery designer and 3D modeler for JewelPop Inc., a multinational company based out of Dartmouth, NS. His enthusiasm for jewellery led him to enroll in the International School of Gemology (ISG) while working full time. In 2014 and 2015 respectively, Mr. Smith earned Registered Gemologist and Registered Gemologist Appraiser certifications which attests that Mr. Smith has developed the skills needed to identify and appraise jewellery at a professional level.
In 2016 Mr. Smith decided to open Aidan Smith Jewellery Appraisal and Design. Mr. Smith’s constant study of the history of jewellery, the science of metallurgy and gemology, and fabrication methods informs not only his appraisal work but also his 3D modeling and design work. This meticulous nature, added to Mr. Smith’s earnest desire to help people, allows him to facilitate other people’s creative endeavors.
